AGED CARE PROJECTS

Aged Care design is central to our practice. Our projects include:

Brian King Gardens - Castle Hill, Sydney

Brian King Gardens is a 238 bed ageing in place residential aged care facility, built in the midst of an existing village setting at Castle Hill, Sydney. The facility is built on a large sloping site and varies in height from 4 to 6 storeys. Ground level contains a modern hotel styled foyer with some resident facilities as well as 2 x 17 bed households. Specific dementia care is provided in secured households of similar configuration. The other floors contain 4 households, each having their own dining, lounge, formal sitting room and terraces. The bedrooms have a private ensuite, with space in each for a lounge chair.

Ballycara Retirement Village - Scarborough, QLD

Ballycara residential aged care facility accommodates 40 residents. The building is designed around a central hub providing resident services with secure links to the accommodation clusters. The facility is set within a natural coastal landscaped environment with access to recreation areas.

Goodhew Gardens - Taren Point, Sydney

Goodhew Gardens is a 119 bed ageing in place residential aged care facility overlooking Woolooware Bay. Ground level contains a hotel style reception & lobby area as well as resident health services, activity & lounge areas. Residents requiring dementia specific care are accommodated on the first floor in 17 bed households. The second level has 3 households, each having their own dining, lounge, formal sitting room & terrace. The bedrooms have a private en-suite, kitchenette & space for a small dining table & lounge chair.

Moreton Bay Nursing Care Unit - Redlands, QLD

The 128 high care beds are divided into 4 x 32 bed self-contained clusters. Further dividing the clusters into 4 x 8 bed wings, enables residents to identify with a smaller household group, each having their own lounge and dining areas, while being able to share larger central communal areas with other cluster residents.

Between two clusters modified to suit caring for residents with dementia, sits the community facility, utilised by volunteer and day respite programs as well as housing the resident services functions such as physio, salon and administration.

Numylo residential Aged Care Facility - Toowoomba

Numylo residential Aged Care Facility (low to high care) provided an opportunity for Churches of Christ Care to re-think the way care was to be delivered to the residents of this facility.

A “mountain retreat” theme was adopted to encourage a tranquil lifestyle sympathetic to the context. The design doesn’t simply create a “building” or “facility”, it creates a sense of place where a resident can live in the privacy of their own home (resident suite) and also have the option to move in larger social/ communal circles at their own leisure.

At the heart of the design is the public communal space or mall which links the residential suits with the “local” restaurant, club room, café, hair salon, hydrotherapy spa and gym. This space has high ceilings, natural light, trees and vegetation, and could be likened to a natural gorge. Hidden away, the infrastructure required for the delivery of care is inconspicuous but appropriately positioned.

Maranoa Aged Care Facility - Alstonville, NSW

Maranoa Aged Care Facility is a 45 bed facility situated in Northern NSW. The facility features single rooms with ensuites throughout. It has a central kitchen, laundry, activities hall, hair salon, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and administration facilities.

Barcoo Living - Blackall, Qld

The Barcoo Living Multi Purpose Service Facility provides a centre for the aged and disabled services for the town of Blackall and the surrounding area.

The building features live-in accommodation for 14 residents as well as facilities to support the wider services to the town. It is designed specifically to suit the climate and regional characteristics of Western Queensland.

The facility is broken into four households, two of which are dementia specific. Internal courtyards and landscaping enhance the built environment.
