Interior Design & Architecture

For the frail elderly, the interior of a building is a significant part of their world as this is where they spend the remaining years of their life. It is therefore extremely important that the interior design of the architecture is homelike, comforting and relaxing. Institutional characteristics such as long straight corridors, mono colour schemes, industrial flooring, metal handrails, plastic dining chairs are simply inappropriate for a place that needs to be a home.

Merrin and Cranston Architects have a reputation for homely interiors. Through a clever use of space, natural light and finishes, a unique interior environment can be achieved that is sympathetic to residents and encouraging to staff.

Colour schemes and finishes intended for an environment specific for people with Dementia requires particular skill and understanding of their behaviour patterns. Our interior designs have withstood the test of various Special Needs Units and Dementia Specific accommodation for people with dementia requiring various levels of care.

Merrin & Cranston's in-house interior design staff's work is fully integrated with our architectural service for all built-in interiors elements included in the building contract. Our interior design service includes liaison with applicable staff to determine internal planning and fitout requirements, furniture layouts, lighting selections, materials and products, colour selections and presentation colour boards, included during the design, documentation, procurement and construction phases.

Further interior design services can be separately provided for soft and loose furnishings including window coverings, furniture, decorator items, prints and artworks, not included in the building works. The provision of these FF&E services can be tailored to suit particular client requirements and procurement methods.
